Product Review - Cantu Shea Butter Daily Oil Moisturiser

Hi guys,
As you well know the search for the perfect Leave-in-Conditioner almost never ends. Healthy hair needs moisture to thrive and one way to give it that moisture is through a good moisturiser/ leave-in-conditioner. My favourite moisturiser is Cantu Shea butter Leave-In-Conditioner but unfortunately I ran out of it in February. My supplier in the US sent me a new product to try - Cantu Shea Butter Daily Oil moisturiser. This is the review.

Meet the product:

Product claims:
Made with pure Shea Butter and essential oils to replace vital oil in your hair, leaving it stronger and healthier with a natural shine.
Protects, conditions and penetrates each strand without weighing hair down.
Richly conditions dry brittle hair with deep penetrating oil and emollients.
Nourishes, repairs and strengthens hair to reduce split ends and breakage.
Revitalizes, detangles and adds shine to hair.
Prevents sun and heat damage to hair.
Restores moisture to dry or damaged hair and scalp.

Ingredients:
Water (Aqua) , Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum) , Ethylhexyl Isononanoate , Propylene Glycol , Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) , Decyl Oleate , Beeswax (Apis Mellifera)Cera Alba , Cetyl/PEG/PPG 10/1 Dimethicone , Urea , Polyglyceryl 4 Isostearate , Hydrogenated Castor Oil , Sodium Chloride , BHT , DMDM Hydantoin , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Sodium Borate , Fragrance (Parfum)

Directions:
Shake well before using.  Pour into your hands, rub hands together and massage into hair from the roots to the tips.  Comb and style as desired.  Reapply often to damaged ends and prior to long sun exposure.

Styling Tips:
For added conditioning, repair, and manageability; Massage a generous amount throughout wet hair after shampooing and leave on for 3-5 minutes before styling. Apply before and after styling to create a protective thermal barrier around your hair during heat styling.

How I used product:
I used it on dry hair, on damp hair , on damp hair that had been spritzed with water and glycerine and finally as a sealant.

 Here's my verdict:

The good:
It smells nice (I'm a sucker for nice scents)

The bad:
It felt super greasy without being moisturising. My hair felt like straw coated with olive oil. I tried it on dry hair and was disappointed so I tried it on damp hair and got  the same results. In desperation I  then moisturised with my glycerine mix before applying the product  and even that didn't help. I woke up each morning to super dry ,brittle, greasy hair. So not cool.

The Ugly:
It has mineral oil of all things as its second ingredient. When I read those words on the ingredient list I couldn't believe my eyes. Who uses mineral oil in a moisturising product these days? In my opinion this product has more mineral oil than water because there was nothing moisturising about it.

Dark Child rating : 1/10

I will definitely not repurchase this product. I  only used it 3 times and  I had to shampoo my hair twice to get the greasy feel out. Its safe to say this is one product I wont re-use just so my-money-doesn't-go-to-waste.

Have a great weekend :-)

    2. Thanks for the review. I saw this product at my hair shop yesterday and wondered whether it would be good to try, lol I guess not! I tend not to use commercial leave-ins any more because they build easily on my hair and I don't think many of them are Ph balanced so often they don't help close the cuticles. I make my own here: http://youtu.be/ULGJEBWrqCQ

    3. Hi Bola, this product definitely gets no love from me but it could work for someone else. As for the PH thingy, I watched some of kimmaytube's videos and I must say she has a point. I will definitely check out your video. Thanks for stopping by

  2. The main ingredient is aloe vera which has a similar ph to our hair. This really works well for me. I then go on to seal with Shea butter. Xx

  3. I totally agree with your review!! I only used mine twice and ended up trading it for a Giovanni Smooth as Silk shampoo at the Naturals in the City event last month. It just wasn't working for me.

How to create a a sleek faux bun with short natural hair!!!!

Hi people!    So its been a while since my last post and I apologize. I have been all kinds of busy but I have got something really cool for you all today. I haven't really done any hairstyle posts on this blog  because in my bid to retain length I just cornrow and throw on a wig. I have been doing that for months with the random Afro-puff thrown in once in awhile but this week I just wasn't  in the mood for any of my wigs. I decided to finally do something I have been dying to do: a faux bun!! Its super easy just follow the steps below and you'll be rocking your faux bun in a couple of minutes :-)                                                                                                Preparing my hair I stretched my hair with my cornrows first. I took out the braids then moisturised and sealed: My stretched hair  I sectioned my hair into 2 parts. I started from the front section. I added some Ecostyler gel, brushed it lightly with a toothbrush and pulled
