Did you know?

Hi there,
Since I began my healthy hair journey I have learnt a lot about my hair, but with  each passing day and with more blogs and vlogs I visit, I find that there is still a whole lot more to learn. I'll like to share a few of the things I've learnt so far with you.

Did you know:

  •  Water is the best moisturiser for your natural hair?

  • The best hair moisturisers have water as the first (or one of the first five) ingredients?

  • Coconut oil is one of the few oils that can actually penetrate your hair shaft?

  • Coconut oil can protect your hair from loosing protein during handling, combing and washing?

  • Shampoos with sulphates are extremely drying and should be used rarely or not at all?

  • Combing your hair too much can chip away protein from your hair making it prone to breakage?

  • Hair should be combed damp never dry or dripping wet?

  • Your hair needs both protein and moisture in perfect balance to flourish?

  • You must seal in moisture for your hair to stay moisturised longer?

  • Oils must never be applied to dry hair except when finger detangling?

  • It is better to use a wide tooth comb or your fingers to comb your hair rather than a fine tooth comb?

  • Many naturals have stopped using combs and rely on their fingers instead?

  • Humectants like glycerine and honey attract moisture into your hair strands?

  • Cotton bed sheets and pillowcases soak up  moisture from our hair while we sleep?

  • Heat is not really a friend and should either be ditched or used rarely?

  • Everybody's hair actually grows, its retaining the length that is the problem?

  • Your ends are the oldest part of your hair and must be lavished with the most attention?

  • Castor oil can boost hair growth?

  • Jojoba oil is the closest oil to the one our scalp produces (sebum)?

  • Washing hair frequently can cause dryness which will result in breakage?

  • There are 3 types of hair based on how much they can absorb or loose moisture?

  • You can use a conditioner to wash your hair rather than a shampoo?

I could go on and on :-) I am still learning and it feels great to apply this knowledge and see the results on my hair. Last week I learnt something new. It is what I would call a hair growth hairxperiment. I started on the 1st of October and I end today. I'll tell you all about it next.
