HAIR UPDATE- 18 M0NTHS NATURAL

Hi guys,    As I confessed in  this post , I was quite busy with a lot of stuff and as a result my hair was all but forgotten. I put my hair in cornrows and used wigs whenever I had to go out. I would spritz once in a while but deep conditioning, prepooing and  all other TLC was abandoned.  Added to the general neglect, I have been needing a trim for months and yet I did nothing because I was 'too busy'. Well my hair revolted!!!! :-(  I had tons of breakage, I mean I would run my hands down my hair and I would see little broken hairs on my palm. I FREAKED OUT big time and knew it was time to wake up from my coma. I did a self trim but first I took some update pictures: Looks like a lot of growth right? Well check out the back:   Hardly any progress at the back because that's where most of the breakage occurred. My ends were Sahara dry and there were quite a  few split hairs. I knew it was time to ...

MY NIFTY LITTLE APPLICATOR BOTTLE

Hi guys,     As you may have already deduced, caring for natural hair can be a full time job. There's the detangling, prepooing, oil rinsing, deep conditioning, moisturising , sealing etc. and these can get a little tedious. For this reason I am constantly looking for a way to make my hair life easier. While browsing in the hair section of a supermarket near me I found this: Mineral oil in an applicator bottle!!! At first glance its just a synthetic hair oil inside an white bottle, but it is much more than that. Infact when I found it on the shelf I was really really happy, so happy that I almost clapped. I wasn't happy because I found scented mineral oil (that's exactly what the product contains), I was happy because right in front of me was an applicator bottle which I have been wanting for a while. And the icing on the cake? It costs N150 only.  So what's the fuss about this bottle? Well take a look at that nozzle.. Diluted Sh...

LOST BUT FOUND AND A MINI TOOL HAUL

Hi Guys,      I am really sorry I have been away so long. I have been working on a project that leaves me extremely exhausted/drained/fatigued at the end of each day so blogging has not been on my to-do list for a while. I am back now and hopefully I wont be gone for long again.   All has been well with my hair although I have been neglecting it badly. I am in desperate need of a trim but I have been too busy to do it myself and the thought of someone else doing it gives me nightmares. I don't want to end up with a mini big chop after all my hard work and prayers lol. I have also abandoned hot oil treatments, prepooing and weekly deep conditioning...hmmm I smell a mane revolt coming up soon.   In other news,I got my sister in Texas to get me 3 hair tools I have been dying to have. Here they are in order of happifyingness (loooool): Wig Clips ;-)   I haven't installed a weave in a looong time. I shudder at the thought of a giant needle...

5 SECRETS TO LONGER HAIR

Hi guys,     My last post was an update on my journey so far. I got a lot of comments from friends and family who saw the pictures, about what I did to grow my hair so fast. I was a little taken aback because I felt that was modest growth but people seem to think I have done very well in 15 months. The basic question is "How do I get my hair to grow as much as yours has done in such a short time?" I have to explain that everybody's hair grows, its retaining the length that is a problem for most people. To be honest I know there are people who do nothing at all and still have great length retention but I had to work a little hard to retain the length that I have. Here are 5 things I do and here's hoping they help you too:  Moisturise and seal as needed. This is a no-brainer right? But its still so hard to get it right. I try my very best not to let my hair get dry because dry hair breaks! Its that simple. I found a moisturiser my hair loves and I use a heav...

HAIR UPDATE- 15 MONTHS POST BC

Hi guys,     In my last post I told you I was super excited about this update. The reason is simple - my hair grew!!! I love doing length checks because they make me know that my regimen is working and my hair appreciates every kiss and hug I throw its way. Without further ado, here are my 15 months post BC pictures. If you compare these pictures with the ones from my last update you'll notice that I retained quite a bit of length. I think I had about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" of growth in most places. Now I can do a low pony tail ;-) Please ignore the rubber band, I am an Unrepentant sinner :-(    For the first time in ages I felt like using a flat iron to straighten my hair so I could really see how long it has grown, but my fear of heat damage held me back. I do not want to lose even 1 single curl so I had to hold myself back. In my next length check I will use a tape measure just to know in terms of inches what my progress is. Thi...

OIL HUNTING AT MEGA PLAZA

Hi guys,     It has been a weird couple of weeks so kindly pardon my long silence. I went to Mega Plaza in VI for a spot of shopping about three weeks ago and as usual I went to check out the oil stand. I found such a wide array of oils that it felt like I was in oil heaven. There were more than 6 brands of Olive oil and as usual I chose the most mysterious looking one with a super sexy bottle.   N1130 I saw about 2 brands of Coconut oil. I used the Parachute brand last month and I really like it, but I was open to trying a new brand. I found this one that looked semi-solid and I immediately grabbed it. N570 I also found an oil I have had on my to-buy list for a while - Sweet Almond Oil. Now Foods brand has it for about N4500 and I was planning to get it from Olori but then I ran into this brand. I was a little worried because it is a lot (A WHOLE LOT!!!) cheaper but I'll try it first and see if its good enough for my hai...

HOW TO END A WASH AND GO DAY SUCCESSFULLY!

Hi guys, A synonym is a word with the same or similar meaning of another word. Words that are synonyms are said to be synonymous, and the state of being a synonym is called synonymy. For example the synonyms for a Wash and Go are: Tangles Single Strand Knots Multiple Strand Knots etc. Sorry for the half baked English lesson ;-) but if you are a natural I'm sure you might agree with the above. Nothing looks nicer than a well oiled 'Fro but after rocking one I end up cursing myself when I am trying to get rid of the Single Strand knots that have congregated on my head at the end of the day. I avoided Wash and Gos for a while as I suggested in this post I did about dealing with Single strand knots but sometimes I miss my fro and I just have to let it out. Thankfully I finally found a way to end my Wash and Go days with little or no tangles. A wash and Go kind of day. :-) Can you see the white specks on my hair from the Cantu Shea butter for Natural hair? S...

DIY MID-LENGTH CROCHET BRAIDS

Hi guys,     My hair has been through a lot of manipulation these last couple of weeks so I decided to give it a well deserved break. I had been dreaming of crochet braids for a while but I was a little hesitant because of how my last crochet braiding went. Remember? It took over 6 hours and was so heavy I had to remove them almost immediately. All in all I was desperate to put my hair in a protective style so I manned up and tried my hands on crochet braids once again. This time it was a lot better, faster and lighter. The reason? I used a bigger bobby pin and I used a different brand of Marley hair. I found bigger bobby pins! Compared with the one I used the last time. I used this Marley braiding hair from Supreme. It was really light. I used one and a half packets: The Marley hair was too long for me. I wanted medium length braids so I had to figure out how to trim them without getting those annoying blunt end...
