DIY // HOW TO MAKE A TEXTURED HAIR DONUT

Hi guys,
    Its DIY time again folks and this post is about how to make a hair donut. You may be unfamiliar with the name but it looks something this:

It is used to create bigger, fuller looking buns with  medium length hair. I have one  I bought some time ago for N250 so imagine my surprise when  saw this online:

N1500 for ordinary foam? I asked my Instagram followers if they wanted a tutorial on how to make a hair donut and they said yes,so here it goes:


MATERIALS:
Foam (flat foam)
scissors
Thread and needle

I'll explain what the Marley hair is doing there later.

Cut the foam into a rectangle. Try to make it as straight as possible.

 Fold the rectangle in half.

Sew the edges together. (Pay no attention to the black smudges)

After you are done sewing, turn it inside out so the sewn part is inside.                                                  

                                              

 It should look like this when you are done:

Fold the top inside. Next, fold the bottom part inside to overlap the top end.

It will look like this.

 Now turn it inside out and sew the overlapping edge down on the foam.

Turn it inside out and you have a perfect hair donut.

 You can use it like this but it might show under black hair especially if the hair is not thick. Its best to use black foam for this purpose but if you do not have black foam ,You may spray it with black hair dye or paint it with a black marker to make it black.

THE TEXTURED HAIR DONUT
I went a step further and made mine a textured bun. Why? It makes my buns super big  and the added texture camouflages any bald spots in my bun.

MATERIALS:
Hair donut from above
2 strands of Marley hair
Hair bonding glue

Take the 2 strands of Marley hair

Pancake the edges. In lay man's terms pull the hair apart by the edges till its a frizzy mess.

 Cover the donut with hair bonding glue.

Proceed to wrap one strand around the donut

Take the strand from out to in making sure to press down firmly so it attaches to the glue. Ensure the strand of hair completely covers the glue under it.

 Just keep wrapping it around, moving the strands to cover the next space. One strand should completely cover half of the bun. Take the next strand, firmly press down on the glue and then continue wrapping the donut.

 Wrap the last piece over the glue and cut off any extra hair. Press down firmly to make sure the hair stays put. Check through the circumference of the donut to make sure there is no exposed glue as this could rip out your hair on contact. If there's any glue exposed just pull some strands to cover it.

Making sure the donut is still stretchy.
