DIY// HOW TO MAKE A CUTE HEADBAND WITH AN OLD SHIRT.

Hi there,     The title is a little misleading I must confess. It wasn't an old shirt. I have had it for about 2 years (that's not old to me) and I really liked it. It was really pretty with 3 roses on the left shoulder and a belt which gave it that baby-doll-dress look. Isnt she lovely? Things were going fine with us until one fateful day while I was ironing. My mind drifted and before I could say "kai iron!" the shirt was ruined. Just like that! I tried to remedy the situation by moving the roses from the shoulder to the burnt spot as you can see in the photo above but after a few wears I saw this: The hole was expanding. I had two options: First was to throw the whole shirt away and second was to use it for something useful. After thinking for a while the answer came to me. The shirt had a belt and 3 roses, perfect for a cute headband. So here's what I did: I cut out the roses and removed the belt. Then I carefully sewed th...

5 AWESOME NIGERIAN NATURALS YOU SHOULD FOLLOW ON INSTAGRAM

Hi guys,     Although I was a little slow on the uptake, I finally joined Instagram and in less than an hour afterwards I was already addicted. My raison d'être? Track down awesome naturals with special emphasis on Nigerian naturals, and as one hashtag says: Naturals Dey!!!!! Here 5 Nigerian naturals I am currently stalking on Instagram: YAGAZIE EMEZI @yagazieemezi From what I deduce, Yagazie is an Igbo girl with a Malaysian mom. She's this wild earth child/hippie being, a culturati of some sort and an amazing photographer. But the thing that keeps me stalking her page is to have a glimpse of her wild mane. Which mane ? Well, THIS mane: Mufasa has got nothing on you girl! She doesn't really do a lot of styles so if you are looking for style inspiration you might be a little disappointed. But if like me you like to get frospiration, then she's your gal. Her fro is awesome, so thick and lush that it almost wants to make me st...

2 YEARS NATURAL!!!

Hi guys,     Its been 2 years since I decided to grow my hair out natural, can you believe that? It seems just like yesterday to me. I am really happy with my decision and I only wish I had made it earlier, who knows how huge my fro would have been if I had started 4 years ago. Oh well, its better late than never. During these past 2 years I have had my ups and downs. The ups for me include the joy I feel each time its length check day and I see that my hair has grown a couple of cms past the last time. I also love my hair when I fro it out and random people I meet almost hi5 me. The best up is the self reliance I now have. I wash, deep condition and style my hair myself 99.9% of the time. No more pain and no more raw boned hands digging into my scalp at the salon. The downs have been few and far in between and for that I am thankful. I have learnt so much and grown with my hair, it almost seems we are buddies. Weird but true.  Here are my progress pictures: ...

AWESOME FINDS// 4 PACK TRAVELLING BOTTLES

Hi guys,      If there's one thing all naturalistas have in common it will be a stash of hair products. There's usually the moisturiser, the sealing oil or butter, the conditioner &/or deep conditioner and the shampoo. For the Bruce Lees of natural hair there'd be alot of other things like henna, bentonite/rhassoul clay, ACV and some other action packed products but you'll agree with me that when we travel we take just the basics- moisturiser, conditioner, oil and shampoo. So what do you do when you have to take a short trip? Go with all your heavy bottles of product,  go with none and leave your strands to the grace of God or improvise? I would improvise. I usually put a little of everything I need in smaller bottles. The bottles are usually random bottles in different sizes and don't usually look so cute in my bag. In answer to a prayer I don't remember praying, I found these bottles at Blenco supermarket Ajah: N450 Cute or nah? I love them, especia...

MY CASABELLA EXPERIENCE

Hi guys,   I hope you had a pleasant week,  I know I did :-) A while ago I read Kemi Lewis' ( of KL'S NATURALS) blogpost about a temporary spray-on hair colour she had gotten from Casabella at the Palms shopping mall.  Casabella is a beauty shop and they sell a wide range of hair products from Giovanni, Cantu, Shea Moisture and a number of other big natural hair brands.  I loved the results she got using the spray so I had it in mind to pick up a bottle from Casabella whenever I was at the Palms. Turns out I didnt have to go that far. So there I was minding my own business on the paved roads of Ikota shopping mall when I looked up and there it was: To say I was excited is putting it mildly. I went in sharply and proceeded to feed my eyes. They had a fairly wide range of stuff from wigs to make up, creams, brushes and finally HAIR PRODUCTS!!! I was spoilt for choice. I don't think I have mentioned it here before but I really need to over haul my staple...

WHAT'S IN MY BAG :-)

Hi guys,        Ekene over at Thekinkandi  nominated me for the WHATS IN MY BAG TAG some weeks ago. I was really thrilled because Ekene is one of my favourite bloggers and I just love being tagged in anything (makes me feel all warm and fuzzy lol). So lets get down to business: Going from left to right   Tablet: I watch videos (hair tutorials on YouTube mostly ), edit photos, read and do all the doables on my tab. Earphones: For listening to music super loud!!! Awake and watchtower magazines: Just in case I have an opportunity to witness to someone in a waiting room or some other place. Purse: I have had this purse for 5 years now. It holds cash and all my bank cards. Makeup bag: I am pretty basic when it comes to make up. I don't really know how to do the advanced stuff so I just have regular black eye pencil, brown brow pencil, red lipstick, eye shadow palette and lip gloss (can you spy the toothbr...

CHEAP TRICKS // HEAT BASED DEEP CONDITIONING WITHOUT A STEAMER/DRYER

Hi guys,      I hope you all are doing great. I have been thinking of how to make my blog better and I came up with a few ideas. I am thinking of introducing new series like the one above - cheap tricks which will feature once a month. It will contain tips and tricks I have learned along the way to make your hair journey much more affordable. I hope you will all benefit from it.    My first trick is: H eat based deep conditioning without a steamer or dryer . As you may know deep conditioning and heat (moist heat) go hand in hand.  Infact I am yet to find any deep conditioner that does not recommend conditioning with heat. For example SHEA MOISTURE'S DEEP TREATMENT MASQUE (which I have reviewed on this blog) recommends using heat for 30 minutes while ORS REPLENISHING CONDITIONER (review coming up soon) recommends 10-15 minutes with heat. Why you may ask. Well the heat opens up your cuticles which makes absorption of nutrients much mo...
