How to create a a sleek faux bun with short natural hair!!!!

Hi people!
So its been a while since my last post and I apologize. I have been all kinds of busy but I have got something really cool for you all today. I haven't really done any hairstyle posts on this blog  because in my bid to retain length I just cornrow and throw on a wig. I have been doing that for months with the random Afro-puff thrown in once in awhile but this week I just wasn't  in the mood for any of my wigs. I decided to finally do something I have been dying to do: a faux bun!! Its super easy just follow the steps below and you'll be rocking your faux bun in a couple of minutes :-)

                                      Preparing my hair

I stretched my hair with my cornrows first. I took out the braids then moisturised and sealed:

My stretched hair
I sectioned my hair into 2 parts. I started from the front section. I added some Ecostyler gel, brushed it lightly with a toothbrush and pulled it into a bun on the top of my head:

Tying the front section into a bun
After I was done with the front, I brushed up the back and used some gel to slick it up and tied it into a ponytail. I made sure I tied it as closely as possible to the front ponytail, making sure that it wasn't so obvious that there were 2 ponytails not one. This method is called the PONYPUFF method and I learnt it from Youtuber India of Mynaturalsistas. Splitting the ponytail in two helps people with shorter hair achieve a high ponytail which would ordinarily be difficult to do without using bobby pins to pin up the leftovers at the back.

Using another hair band I joined both ponytails together to form one:

Frontal view
I braided the hair on top and tucked it into the hair bands to form a small knot which wont be visible through the bun.
See my shame? Rubberbands on my precious hair!! I just couldn't find any ouchless bands :-(

Now its time to work on the faux bun
I used NOBLE afro braiding hair for the bun.
Just one pack (N700)
I split it into 2 unequal parts because I didn't want it too big. I also oiled the hair to get it a little shiny.
I used the bigger half.

Taking a rubber band, I put the hair through the middle of the doubled up band ( sorry for the grammar just look at the picture to get my drift)

Then I slipped one end through the other end to make a lock.

This is how it looked when I was done:

                                 Here comes the fun part

I placed the Marley hair on the knot by simply putting the rubberband on the base of the knot. Once was enough so I  proceeded to arranging.

I separated the hair into the original two pieces. I started with the left piece which was by my own preference shorter than the right piece. I wrapped it loosely around the knot in an anti-clockwise direction and secured the loose end by tucking it into one of the rubberbands already on the knot:

Then it was time for the longer piece. I wrapped it in a clockwise direction around the bun that was created by the left piece. When I was done I tucked the end under the full bun and it stayed put.

I moulded and shaped it until it suited me and then I was done.....

Sleek and chic...not so?

I really really like how this hairstyle turned out. The sweetest thing is that I did it all by myself and it didn't take any time at all. A lot of people thought it was my hair and I was like how now? didn't you see my afro puff some weeks ago? LOL!! This hairstyle will also look great on relaxed hair but it will be best to use other silkier hair textures like Expression rather than Marley afro braid hair which is similar to natural hair. Try it out for yourself and see how great it looks on you.

Thanks for stopping by...

Thanks alot! I didnt originate the name. That's what the style is called. Faux is french for artificial or an imitation of the genuine article hence the name faux bun (since the bun itself is fake

DIY// HOW TO MAKE AN APPLICATOR BOTTLE

I also hope you like the new blog design.     If you live in Nigeria then you are aware that things are getting out of hand financially. The recession is hitting really hard and it seems no one is immune. Inspite of this I do not want my Fro to suffer so I am working on making a lot of homemade products and utensils to ensure my hair doesn't feel the strain of the harsh economy.    Today I will be showing you how to make an APPLICATOR bottle from any old plastic bottle you have at home. Why bother you ask? Read my post about different ways to use an  Applicator bottle .       Let's get right into it.
